About youTHink

“We believe that children who are confident, who have positive feelings about themselves and have safe and loving relationships with their caregivers are less vulnerable to all forms of abuse and harm. This website is dedicated to providing evidence based information on child development and protection issues to Sri Lankan parents, children, and teachers enabling them to make decisions that increases resilience and reduces vulnerability of children.”

About This Site

What we believe

We are all different and unique. Our families are different and unique.
This means that each family has to make their own decisions about what works for their family. Decisions are personal and based on what is best suited for each family. Knowing what works and what doesn’t is a part of growing together and developing as a family.

What the website provides

We provide evidence based information pertaining to development and protection of children so that families can make well-informed decisions that are suited to their unique circumstance, lifestyle, culture and value system. We gather this information and translate it into everyday language with lots of real-life examples. This website provides you with information. We don’t tell people what to do. We don’t have a hidden agenda.

Who is this for

Our website is for three distinct groups of people:

For parents: provides parents with information on child behaviour, development, communicating and forming connections, child sexual abuse, online safety and self care.

For teens 13+: provides teenagers with information on puberty, reproductive education, learning, friendships, child sexual abuse, and online safety.

For teachers: provides teachers with resources and materials they can use in the classroom.

Our website also has resources for the professionals who work with and support parents and teens – media, researchers, social workers, psychologist and so on.

Where the information comes from

Working with eminent Sri Lankan experts in their fields we have produced some of our own content based on evidence based research.

We have also established close relationships and licensing agreements with several highly respected content partners including the Alcohol and Drug Information (ADIC), Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) Sri Lanka,  Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka, Guru.lk, National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) Sri Lanka and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner – Australia, The Center for Parenting Education – US.

All content is approved by our Review Board made up of some of Sri Lanka’s pre-eminent experts in child development and protection.

Who has funded this

Our website is funded by the National Child Protection Authority of Sri Lanka (NCPA) and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA). We do not permit advertising, and we do not endorse any commercial products.
